Drop Forged Diesel has been building performance diesel trucks in Houston since 2014. Platform-specific knowledge, honest assessments, and dyno-verified results — on Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke.
Drop Forged Diesel opened in Houston in 2014 as a diesel-specific performance shop — not a general repair shop that does performance work on the side. From the beginning, the focus was the three heavy-duty diesel platforms: Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke. Twelve years later, that focus hasn't changed.
What has changed is the depth. The 5.9 Cummins we started tuning in 2014 is a different build from the 2021 6.7 with a CP4 pump and a 68RFE that's never been serviced. The LBZ Duramax compound turbo build is a different project from an L5P with factory warranty considerations. The 6.4 Power Stroke EGR cooler risk is different from the 6.7 CP4 exposure. We know the difference — not from training materials, but from doing this work for twelve years in Houston's heat.
Platform-specific knowledge means we tell you things other shops don't. That a Stage 3 tune on a 2019+ 6.7 Cummins without a CP3 conversion is a risk we won't take. That the 68RFE needs to be assessed before the tune goes in, not after it breaks. That the LML EGR cooler should be inspected at the same consultation as the LML tune. None of that costs extra to say. It's just part of knowing the platform.
Each generation of each platform has its own failure modes, tuning tools, and component limits. This is what we know.
Every build starts with a conversation before any parts are ordered. We establish the use case, the power target, and the platform-specific risks. The six-step build process starts here. No consultation, no build.
We don't apply generic diesel tuning to specific platforms. The 6.7 Cummins gets a different fuel system conversation than the L5P Duramax. The 6.4 Power Stroke gets an EGR cooler assessment before any performance work. The platform determines the build path.
Every EFI Live calibration is written live on a chassis dyno against the truck's actual output. No pre-made files flashed over OBD. Before/after numbers documented on every power build.
If the tune is the wrong first spend for your build, we'll tell you. If the CP4 needs to be addressed before anything else happens, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather lose a service than have a truck come back with a failure we could have prevented.
Drop Forged Diesel is located at 8840 Westheimer Rd in Houston — accessible from Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, and the broader Houston metro. The shop is a purpose-built diesel performance facility, not a converted general repair shop. Lift capacity, dyno equipment, and tooling are all spec'd for heavy-duty diesel trucks.
We work on trucks that come from across the Houston metro and from outside the region for builds that aren't available locally. If you're coming from a distance, we can pre-scope the build remotely and minimize the number of drop-off trips.
Common questions about the shop, our approach, and who we work with.
Every build starts with a consultation. Tell us the platform, the use case, and the target — we'll give you an honest assessment of the build path and what it takes to get there.
