If you own a 6.7 Power Stroke (2011+) and you're planning any kind of performance work, the Bosch CP4.2 injection pump is the first conversation — not a footnote, not an add-on recommendation after we talk about turbos. The CP4 is a known failure point on this platform. Under elevated fuel demand from a stage tune, it fails. When it fails, it sends metal debris through your fuel rails, injectors, and tank. The repair is $10,000–$18,000 depending on how far the contamination traveled.
The CP4-to-CP3 conversion on the 6.7 Power Stroke costs a fraction of that and eliminates the failure mode entirely. Ford ran the 6.4 from 2008–2010 and the 6.7 from 2011 to present — but they share very little beyond the nameplate. Different injection architecture, different turbo configuration, different emission system, different failure modes. We don't treat them as the same build conversation.
The 6.4 runs dual Bosch CP4 high-pressure pumps — the injection architecture is different from the 6.7's single CP4. Performance work on the 6.4 includes EGR system considerations that affect build longevity, and compound turbos are well-supported by the aftermarket. The 6.4 responds well to compound turbo setups and EFI Live calibration. EGR cooler failure is the known weakness on stock trucks — addressed as part of any build plan.
The 6.7 is Ford's in-house diesel design — stronger block, better injection architecture baseline, and a well-supported tuning ecosystem. CP4-to-CP3 conversion is the mandatory first step on any performance build. After that: EFI Live calibration, 6.4-style compound turbo capability on the 6.7 platform, FASS fuel system, and injector upgrades at higher power levels. The 6R140 transmission is a strong unit but has its own limits at elevated torque — we account for that in the build plan.

The factory EGR cooler on the 6.4 is a documented failure point — coolant contamination into the intake is the result when it fails. On any 6.4 build we assess EGR system condition as part of the build plan. EGR cooler failure on a neglected truck can cause significant engine damage that the performance work didn't cause but will get blamed for if the timing is wrong.
